Hey Everyone. Charles met with the Wildlife Conservation Society folks yesterday and recovered his data logging devices (the things they left in the nests to record temperature since June). We're in a hotel near Flores this morning. (oh yes - we have to stay at places with secure parking now with the jeep loaded - this usually means national parks or reserves or nice hotels with wi-fi ... darnit)!
See the map above, just to the west of Belize. We're in the north in the Peten region. Flores is on the south end of the huge Lago Peten Itza. Later today we'll go a little west and a lot south toward La Libertad, then Sayaxche then to Coban (in Alta Verapaz region). We took this same road in June after visiting the Quetzal reserve - an awesome paved road through some incredible country. It only took us 4 hours too. We'll try our luck again to see the elusive quetzal bird at the Biotopo Quetzal (near Tactic) - really nice camping in the beautiful cloud forest jungle (and of course the gated parking - can't forget that). No internet there though but we'll post more later when we reach Antigua in the highlands. Can't wait to go back to Antigua - very excited!
Love you and miss you all. Kristi
