Hey folks. Realizing we were running short on time (and patience on the mountain roads), we be-lined out of Oaxaca on the interstate-type toll roads (ahhh) toward Mexico City - we made it through the traffic unscathed somehow - and got to Gueratero to stay overnight. A nice city center/plaza and eateries but really just a quick overnight at a hostel and back on the road. Thanks to more toll roads (I love them - they're expensive but I LOVE them) we made it to Mazatlan JUST in time for a tiny piece of sunset. We'll be here for a WHOLE day tomorrow and then maybe on to Durango and northward. See/talk to you all soon!
Pictures are from today (Friday the 14th): we went to the hotel roof/balcony/bar/swimming pool on the 12 floor and watched the sunset. In one photo you can see the pool to the right and 12 stories to the Pacific on the left. What an awesome sunset (and pina colada of course). We spent all day today chilling out on the beach beyond the rocks where there's a line of multi-story hotels and bars. We parked under a palapa with reclining chairs all afternoon. Ahhhh.... The ocean was perfect temperature and great waves for body surfing. Nice shrimp and cerveza ofertas too of course - it's Mexico!
The other photo is looking the oppostie direction (south) toward the lighthouse after dusk. Fun fun! A drum circle last night on the walkway was sweet. The city centro/cathedral is to the way left out of the photo but last night the square was great - we had to choose from 12+ outdoor cafes all around the plaza!
